High school exchange student Silvia Gil Manso, from Spain, shares her exchange experience.
I’m pretty sure deciding to be an exchange student is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life, if not the best! Going on an exchange, spend a year without your family and friends sounds kind of scary and crazy, but it really isn’t. “Exchange is not a year in your life, it’s a life on a year” and its so true, really true. During this year I’ve learned more than I expected. Things like being more independent, more natural and adventurous, I’ve learned to take risks and stand up for what I believe because If I don’t, no one will, and of course I’ve improved my English.
There have been rough moments through the year, of course, but nothing bad lats forever and keeping a positive attitude helps a lot. Especially when you don’t have your parents to help you and encourage you to keep going. But no matter what, the rough moments are nothing compared to all the great memories that I’ve experienced through this time. I’ve meet lots of people and made new friends. I’ve gone places I never thought I’d go and saw things with my eyes that I only imagined in my head. I have had so much fun and learned so many things in this time. Being an exchange student is worth it and a great experience I’d love to do it again if I could.
