20 Year Friendship Between Schools in Japan and the U.S.

20 Year Friendship Between Schools in Japan and the U.S. 1

For over 20 years, Japan’s Matsudo Kokusai High School and California’s Del Oro High School have been sister schools.  Each year about 20 Japanese exchange students travel to Del Oro’s hometown of Loomis, CA, and spend three weeks living with local families and getting a taste of America.

The Japanese students’ arrival is a major event at Del Oro, and the local students, teachers, and families always plan a grand welcome filled with signs, a big breakfast, and even a marching band concert!  This year’s group of exchange students recently enjoyed their three-week visit, and it was as fun as ever.

During their visit, they took trips to San Francisco and Sacramento, spent time at a local elementary school where they shared stories from home, tasted new foods, learned about American culture, and as always, made great new friendships to last a lifetime.

We can’t wait to welcome our friends from Matsudo Kokusai High School again next year!
