CHI was proud to again participate in the annual Youth in Arts San Rafael Italian Street Painting Festival in 2010, which closes a busy street in downtown San Rafael for an entire weekend of artistic fun. Despite being hot enough to cook an egg on the pavement this year, the festival had more CHI participants than ever before. At times there were so many helpers, in fact, that CHI’s head artist Robin Braunfeld recalled “there was not enough room for everyone to get their hands dirty”.
That’s a good problem to have, though, and Robin was thrilled to have so many enthusiastic helpers in attendance, including CHI Co-Founders Tom and Lilka Areton. Lilka had the honor of selecting this year’s artwork, and she chose a design based on a classic image dating to 1888 called Universum, which depicts a person breaking through the sky to discover the inner workings of the world. Robin was in charge of CHI’s 8′ x 6′ space, and the entire street team worked throughout the weekend to bring the drawing to life.
As the images below can attest, it came out beautiful, and nobody could be more pleased with the results. CHI thanks everyone who was involved in making this year’s street paining festival a success!
