Alumni Stories
When Jacopo arrived in the U.S. as an exchange student, his goal was to improve his English. What he didn’t expect was how much the experience would shape his confidence and the decisions that followed.
One moment that stayed with him was a CHI trip to Yosemite, where he met other students from around the world. Being surrounded by people with different backgrounds but shared experiences changed how he saw himself and his place in the world.
After returning home, that shift became clear. When he finished his Bachelor’s degree in Italy and felt unsure about his next step, he didn’t hesitate to apply to universities across Europe. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in engineering in Sweden, accept a job there, and later move to Belgium. These were choices he believes he would not have made without his exchange year.
Today, Jacopo has lived in multiple countries and built an international career in cybersecurity. He still keeps in touch with his host family and credits his exchange experience with opening the door to a life without borders.
