As of Friday June 21st, summer is officially upon us. School is out and kids are enjoying their freedom. Since most parents don’t get a summer break (wouldn’t that be nice!), this means finding alternative childcare to fill those long summer days.
We all want our children to fill those days doing worthwhile things. We want them to have fun while still being mentally challenged. Summer camps are a nice option but can be costly, especially with more than one child.
Welcoming an au pair is a wonderful alternative option for parents to help them through the summer months. While you are hard at work, your children get to spend time with an energetic, caring au pair who will make sure they participate in all that summer has to offer – swimming, picnics in the park, riding bikes, playing sports. Not to mention the cultural benefits of an international au pair. Your children can learn another language, try new food, and gain first-hand experience with someone from a brand new culture.
The Antonios-McCreas, a CHI host family from Moraga, CA, planned in advance by welcoming Samuel Shipley, an au pair from the UK this April. Sam has been a great addition to the family and has already established a wonderful relationship with both parents and their sons Terek (10), Sebastien (8) and Teo (5).
Sam joined the au pair program after spending a great summer last year working at a camp in Philadelphia. He loved being around the children and getting to immerse himself in American culture. It just wasn’t quite long enough, so the au pair program was a great next step.
Sam brings a great deal of his camp experience to his current host family. Sam is great with the family’s thre boys and spends time helping them at their swim meets and baseball games. Sam is having a great time and looks forward to all the activities they are going to enjoy this summer.
