Au Pair Makes the Most of Her American Adventure

Julia Ansaldi came to the United States from Mara del Plata, Argentina, as part of CHI’s Au Pair program and was welcomed into her host family in McLean, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC just across the Potomac. Love of travel and children led Julia to the Au Pair program. She cheerily explains “it was an excellent opportunity to explore a new country, learn from a new culture, and spend a lot of time playing with kids!”

Now, each day Julia takes care of Jacob, age 10, Timothy, age 9, and Sophia, age 2. Once the older boys are off to school, Julia and Sophia spend the day together. They read (voraciously), go to the library, and play at the park.

In addition to her time as an Au Pair, Julia is also currently getting her Masters Degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications at nearby Georgetown University. Julia attends evening classes and spends her free time studying. While balancing her Au Pair duties and schoolwork can be challenging, Julia feels it is totally worth it. She loves what she is studying and is excited to start a career in communications in the future.

While Julia misses her family and friends, as well as her much loved home on the beach, she knows that participating in CHI’s Au Pair program has been very rewarding. As she says, “What I like the most is the fact that I’m always learning new things and sharing my culture. I love having dinner with my host family, and learning about American traditions, the electoral system, and many other things. I love how the program encourages people to make friends. I’ve made American and Argentine friends, but also French, Venezuelan, Colombian, Spanish, and South African.”

We thank Julia for her kind words, and wish her the best of luck as she continues her American adventure.
