Alina Derickx, from the Netherlands, has made a point to explore as much of the US as possible during her Au Pair program. Last year she went on a 10-day cross country road trip driving through Virginia, New York and Chicago. While in New York City she even drove through Times Square! She visited beautiful national parks including the Rocky Mountains and the Grand Canyon. She ended her road trip in Los Angeles.

The trip was so amazing that Alina has planned a second road trip at the end of her Au Pair program. She will start her trip in Seattle and drive along the Pacific Coast Highway visiting Portland, San Francisco and San Diego. Then she will go inland and see Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon (again) and may other national parks. She is excited to visit the Four Corners Monument, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Utah and Salt Lake City before returning to Seattle. The trip will take 27 days and will cover 7,200 miles. She is so excited to see with the US has to offer.

Alina has been thinking a lot about her future and what she plans to do when she returns home. She would love to start her own travel business ideally helping others plan their own long road trips. She also loves photography (view some of her photos) as well as being an au pair and would consider joining the program again in a few years. “I really enjoy living in the USA and working as an Au Pair. It’s quite different from living in the Netherlands.”
