Spring brings warmer weather, longer days and Nowruz, the Persian New Year.  The celebration of Nowruz begins the moment the sun crosses the equator on the vernal equinox.  This usually occurs on March 21st.  Your friends from Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin and the Balkans will be celebrating this holiday in honor of birth and renewal.

To celebrate families and friends take time to clean their homes, their belongings and buy new clothes symbolizing a fresh start. Over the next two weeks, they gather together to visit and share meals.  They reach out to all of their loved ones and wish them a Nowruz Mobarak (Happy New Year).

This is a holiday that brings people together.  Happy Nowruz!

Future Work & Travel participants from Uzbekistan celebrate Nowruz wearing traditional Uzbek clothing.
