Welcome Baby Arete’a!
October 7 of this year marked a special day for both Lilka and me. And it marked even a more special day for our eldest daughter Lana and her partner James. But it was the most special, extraordinary, momentous day for a little person, a girl, who entered this world. She was all naked, not at all sure she wanted to leave the cozy womb for the loud voices, pulls, pokes and lights that suddenly surrounded her.
Two hours later as I cradled little Te’a [Teh-ah, short for Arete’a] in my arms, she unexpectedly opened her blue eyes. She looked at us as if she wanted to know: “Was I born in the right country? To a loving family? Will I have enough to eat? Blankets and clothes to keep me warm? Will I live in freedom? Will I be able to share my gifts with the world?”
“Yes, you are lucky, indeed…” I said to her. “Luckier than many… I hope you will grow up and make our world better, so that more babies grow up in abundance and safety, like you will…” Suddenly, out of the blue, a fleeting smile appeared on little Te’a face. “She read my thoughts,” I exclaimed. “Probably some gas pains,” said Lilka cheerfully. I know she smiled! Welcome to life, Te’a!

PS: We would like to thank all of you for your loving messages and gifts. Both Lilka and I are overwhelmed by your generosity. Our feelings are indescribable. When I saw Lilka holding the baby, she looked so radiant and filled with pure joy and contentment. Lana looked so loving and downright blissful. Madonna of a mother! James was surprisingly relaxed, in good spirits.
