In 2008, CHI placed Japanese intern Satomi Yamaguchi with Hardy Diagnostics, a microbiology specialist located in Santa Maria, CA. During her stay, Satomi lived with longtime CHI host family Sue and Marc Barnum. The Barnums enjoyed Satomi so much that they even visited her in Japan just one year ago.
When the recent tsunami hit Japan, both Jay Hardy from Hardy Diagnostics and the Barnum family were worried for Satomi. They wanted to help so they put together boxes of food and supplies and sent them to Satomi to share with her family and their community. Hardy Diagnostics was gracious enough to pay all of the shipping costs.
Satomi was extremely grateful for the generous gift. During a very stressful and scary time in Japan, she felt loved and cared for by her American family.
