Right now, I am a sophomore in high school and I am an A student. I am the eldest of three children, the only girl. I will be sixteen by June, and my brothers are 13 and 10. I love Science in general and Biology, particularly Biotechnology. I am also very interested in foreign languages. In addition to English, I have taken German for the last 7 years at the Deutsche Schule in Madrid. I am aware that the United States is at the forefront of technical and scientific knowledge in the world. I think this is going to be a great opportunity to improve my knowledge and make new transatlantic friends, meet interesting people, learn more about the USA and its people, and understand the country better.
My parents are making an important financial effort in order to fulfill my dream of studying for a year in the USA. They also want me to experience other cultures and different ways of doing things. I am very much looking forward to the experience and I am sure my brothers will be too when their turn comes. As I said, this opportunity has meant some sacrifices in our family and I would like to contribute something to it. The scholarship will mean that I won’t have to ask my parents for any pocket money and that I will be able to join some extracurricular activities and go on field trips. There is also the question of proper clothing, depending on which part of the country I might go to. I may need to buy more adequate clothes, particularly if the weather is very cold and perhaps some school materials.
I think this is a great opportunity and I am very much looking forward to it. I think that with this scholarship I will be able to enjoy this experience more fully and take more advantage of it and I also would like for my brothers to do the same.
I will be very grateful if you decide to grant me the scholarship and I can assure you that your help will not be wasted or forgotten and that you won’t have any reason to regret your decision, because I promise to use it well.
