This summer Oak Ridge High School senior Michael Gery traveled to Japan where he lived with a host family for three weeks. Michael lived with Chikayuki Ibe and his mother in Niigata, which has a population of 800,000 and is located on the west coast of Japan’s Honshu Island. Once Michael returned home the cultural exchange didn’t end. Just one week later Chikayuki arrived in El Dorado Hills, CA where he joined Michael and his family for about three weeks. Chikayuki attended school and had the opportunity to watch a minor league baseball game, visit Lake Tahoe and tour San Francisco. Michael and Chikayuki both felt extremely lucky to experience such an amazing cultural exchange.
