Gulirano Makhmudova, from Uzbekistan, participated in CHI’s Work & Travel program this summer. Gulirano wrote the note below to her partner agency back in Uzbekistan sharing what a wonderful experience she is having in San Francisco.
“When I arrived in USA everything was different. The language is different, and the people. The first thing that I noticed is that in San Francisco they have very high buildings and very similar hilly streets. The first days I could see almost all the famous tourist places. Most of all I liked the beach in front of Ghirardelli Square . It was the first time in my life when I saw the ocean in Real Life! From the first day I liked to work in Ghirardelli. It is a very cheerful and friendly atmosphere. Managers and co-workers were very kind and helped me to adapt. I like my job. I made a lot of friends. In my spare time, I often walk and see the beauty of this city that is beyond words! I especially like the weather. It is not hot. The people in San Francisco are the most friendly people. Now I have a lot of friends from different countries. The most important thing I learned to be independent. This is my first time when I live without my parents. I hope in next year I can come back.”
