If you have ever hosted an exchange student you know just how hard it can be to say goodbye. This picture captures that emotional moment, as Host Dad Joe says goodbye to his exchange student for 10 months, and son for always, Sam, from Thailand. It’s clear that the exchange student family ties created by cultural exchange are strong, and they truly can last a lifetime. Thanks to Joe and his family for opening their hearts to an exchange student, and sharing their love with us at CHI.
There is still time to host an exchange student this fall. Students from around the world are coming to America for the 2015-2016 school year! Students are 15-18 years old and attend your local high school for a semester or full academic year.
Volunteer host families are carefully matched with students based on a number of compatibility ratings, such as activities and interests, country of origin, and gender. Host families provide the student with an American family cultural experience. The student, meanwhile, provides the family with an experience they will never forget.
