CHI has many wonderful host families. Families that go above and beyond to make their exchange student part of the family. We are so grateful and know that programs like Group Homestay, Academic Year Program and CHI Au Pair USA, would not be possible without our amazing host families.
Today we want to spotlight the Major family from Salem, Oregon. This family of five welcomed high school exchange student Merle Altmann, from Germany, last year for the school year. With three little children in the home, Judah, age 8, Myles, age 4, and Hudson, age 1, and another on the way, they obviously have quite a busy household. Merle says that from day one, the family welcomed her into their home. She instantly felt comfortable and loved playing with all of her host brothers.
In her memory book letter that she wrote at the end of the year, Merle explains what a great time she had during her program and how the Major family were such a big part of that. Merle says, “I would never have thought how close you can get to someone in such a short time. My host family feels like family to me. When I was sick I got taken care of and when I missed home I got a big hug.”
Please take a moment to read Merle’s letter below. A big thank you to the Major family for being such a wonderful host family!
