Japanese exchange students from Kirishima, Japan recently spent a few weeks visiting their Sister City Sonora, CA where they lived with host families and learned about American culture.
They explored the local area including a visit to City Hall where they met the Mayor of Sonora, Jim Garaventa as well as other city officials. Mr. Garaventa and his staff explained to the students how the city works, as well as shared a brief history of Sonora and the surrounding areas.
The group took a fun tour of City Hall which included many historical pictures and artifacts. Students enjoyed seeing gifts on display that their city had given to Sonora as their Sister City.
CHI’s Founder Tom Areton shared, ” It always warms our hearts when we see overseas students visiting our City Halls, meet our Mayors and see the democracy at work on the local level. Hopefully, they will never forget this experience and they will love and admire our beautiful country. “
