Volunteer Abroad as an English Teacher Assistant in France or Italy
Program Information
As a Teacher Assistant, you will shadow one or more language teachers during classes at a local school. You will assist teaching the class and providing additional support to the students. This program is offered in both France and Italy during the spring and fall semesters.
Teacher assistants are expected to commit to an average of 18 hours per week alongside a language teacher. The schedule will be set with the school. Teaching hours can be from Monday to Saturdays depending on the school’s schedule.

- This is a volunteer position, there is no monetary compensation
- Participants receive room and board in exchange for volunteer teaching at a school
- Participants can be placed all throughout the destination country
- No teaching experience/degree is required, but it is preferable
- Specific program dates apply, and participants must arrive at the closest airport / train station to their placement (in the morning of the starting date)
Visa requirements
Terms of participation
Be a minimum of 18 years old
Have English/German/Spanish/ French as native language
other languages on demand
Have a high school degree
being a university student or graduate is preferable
Be in good mental and physical health
Provide a resume, background check and completed application form
Have positive personal references. Professional references are a plus
France: have a basic knowledge of French
Italy: basic knowledge of Italian is preferable but not required
Have travel insurance covering sickness, accidents, repatriation and third-party liability
Have an adequate means of financial support during the duration of the program
