ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
HAVE YOU ALWAYS DREAMED OF LIVING IN SPAIN?
Whether you are a soccer fanatic, a Flamenco aficionado or a foodie in search of the best tapas – you will surely fall in love with the deeply rooted Spanish culture. Join World Explorers to teach English in Spain. You will live with a local host family where you will be considered part of the familia for one to three months. You will have the opportunity to exchange your language and culture with the locals while living in Spain on the cheap.
WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED AGE RANGE FOR WORLD EXPLORERS TRAVELING TO THIS COUNTRY?
Some of the overseas partner agencies we work with place restrictions on age. We recommend this destination for travelers ages 18-50+. Some older candidates may be considered, but we cannot guarantee it.
WHAT WILL I DO THERE?
Your number one priority is to spend quality time with your hosts, and to practice English with them for 15 hours per week. However, you are welcome to explore as you wish in your free time. Your program is truly what you make of it. This is a once in a lifetime chance to meet new people and speak as much Spanish as humanly possible. We want you to come back with a Spanish lisp!
IS IT EXPENSIVE?
Take advantage of how affordable it is to live with a host family in Spain as a World Explorer. Your program fee ensures that you are placed in a safe environment and that you have local support throughout your stay. Don’t waste your money on expensive hotel accommodations and dining out for each meal. You’ll pay a lot less when you live as a member of a loving host family where you will build long-lasting relationships and eat home-cooked meals.
WHERE WILL I LIVE?
CHI works with trusted overseas partners in Spain to find the best host families possible. Most of our recent placements have been in Barcelona. Barcelona is an amazing cosmopolitan city of 10 million that is situated on the Mediterranean coast. Visit Barcelona to see why it is considered the most exciting city in Europe. It boasts a young and international vibe. While the primary language is actually Catalan, Spanish is also spoken by everyone in Barcelona. The coastal province of Catalonia is home to renowned artists Dali and Gaudi. You won’t want to miss the Sagrada Familia church designed by Gaudi and Dali’s Park Guell. A stroll down Las Ramblas is a must, and don’t forget to check out Plaza Espana and the Olympic park!
ARE THERE HOST FAMILIES IN OTHER PARTS OF SPAIN?
Placements may also be in other areas of Spain upon request. Madrid is the thriving capital of Spain and is considered by many to be the heart and soul of the country due to its central location. You will have the chance to visit tourist attractions like Gran Via, Plaza del Sol and Retiro Park. There are also many flea markets, underground cafes and bars to enjoy. The Basque country is located along the northern coastline of Spain near the border of France. Pintxos, also known as tapas served on a toothpick, are native to this region. San Sebastian is a famous surfing beach in the area. Please note that the placements may be outside of major city centers due to limited living space in urban areas.
WORLD EXPLORERS IS SAFE AND RELIABLE
You will have a local coordinator throughout your stay in Spain. If you are interested in signing up for a Spanish class, a dance class or even a cooking class, our partners can help you arrange different activities according to your interests.
TRAVEL AROUND SPAIN
You are welcome to visit other parts of Spain during your program as long as your host family is aware of your travel plans. You may even want to take the opportunity to visit other European countries after your program ends. Many low-cost airlines offer cheap flights from Spain to other European capitals. Americans can stay in Europe for up to 90 days without a visa. If you are looking to continue your adventure in another Spanish speaking destination, we offer several programs in South America.
