About the Country
Join World Explorers in Colombia and explore its colorful country and its people! Colombia’s diverse culture is a product of its unique history and African, European, and Native Indian influences. For instance:
- Over 87 indigenous ethnic groups that represent 1.5 percent of the country’s total population and speak 64 native languages that belong to 22 linguistic families
- Several million Afro-Colombians represent nearly 16 percent of the population
- Over 30 million mestizo inhabitants with an immense variety of cultural traditions
- Nearly 12,000 gypsies who descend from Colonial times, and several other immigrant groups in different regions of the country

World Explorers allows you to gain valuable experience teaching English in Colombia. Our host families live in Bogota, the exciting capital of Colombia. This beautiful city is famous for its architecture, and there are plenty of parks and museums to wander through during your free time. The nightlife in Bogota is also excellent – you may even bump into Shakira on the dance floor! Past World Explorers have jumped at the chance to visit other areas of Colombia, such as Medellin in the north. Medellin has an enormous ecotourism park that offers hiking, kayaking, biking and camping. World Explorers ensures that your travel through this wonderful country will be safe and fun. Please be aware that host families may not always live in the city center as urban home space can be limited.
Learning Spanish? In Colombia, they speak Spanish very clearly in a way that is easy for beginners to pick up. You will definitely improve your comprehension and speaking skills once immersed in the local Colombian culture.
