Croatia is a beautiful country that has recently become a popular tourist destination. It is a former Yugoslav republic on the Adriatic Sea about the size of West Virginia. Part of Croatia is a barren, rocky region lying in the Dinaric Alps, but it also features the rolling hills of the Zagorje region, just north of the capital Zagreb. It even features a fertile agricultural region called Pannonian Plain that is bordered on the east by the Drava, Danube, and Sava Rivers. Over one-third of Croatia is covered by forests.

As a World Explorer in Croatia, you will have the chance to relax on the country’s gorgeous beaches and get lost wandering the cobblestone streets of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Croatia is famous for delicious seafood and fine wines. Can you think of a better way to get to know Croatia than by seeing the country through the eyes of a local?

CHI works with its trusted partners in Croatia to screen and interview potential host families. Our partner agency is highly respected in the student travel industry. Placements may be in one of a range of cities across the country, so we ask that you be flexible with your eventual location. Please also be aware that host families may not always live in the city center as urban home space can be limited.

Your free time is yours to explore on your own. Your local coordinator in Croatia will be able to help you arrange excursions and activities to keep you busy during your stay. Past participants have enjoyed swimming in Plitvice Lakes, hiking and climbing in the dramatic mountains of Paklenica and even exploring the nature and wildlife at Kopački Rit wetlands. Croatian language classes may also be arranged upon request.

Some of the overseas partner agencies we work with place restrictions on age. We recommend this destination for travelers ages 18-40+. Some older candidates may be considered, but we cannot guarantee it.
